Grounding
Grounding for your energizer is very important and needs to be done properly. We have information on grounding in The Grazer's Connection. In general, you will need about 3 feet of ground rod for each Output Joule of the energizer. For example a 12 joule energizer will need approximately 36' of ground rod or 6 each 6' rods or 4+ 8' rods. The rods should be spaced 10' apart. Please feel free to call us anytime with any questions on grounding.
We stock 5/8" diameter heavy galvanized ground rods. You should use galvinized wire to connect them together and to the energizer. You could use copper, but if you do, also use copper wire for the connections.Try not to use dis-similar metals ! ie: if connecting copper to galvanized, you will eventually get some corrosion growing and end up with a bad connection- thus loosing that ground rod and possibly more down the line.

Nothing is foolproof or guaranteed when it comes to lightning, however the MWLA is our first choice of defense. This unit is a lighting diverter plus a coiled choke with an adjustable point gap for different sizes of energizers. It comes with complete instructions, and needs to be installed at least 65' away from your energizer grounding. It will require 1 additional ground rod, over and above the number at the energizer to be effective.
Item # MWLA $ 10.00 each

The LA112 is a lighting protection kit that utilizes a porcelain lighting arrestor. It comes complete with all neccessary hardware and instructions to install it. These are effective, however when they are hit by lightning - they do need to be replaced. When the contacts are blown, they become a direct short. We suggest that when using porcelain arrestors, you keep some spares on hand.
