The only fence wire product that achieves two functions in one.
It JOINS & TENSIONS wire, and it is available to work with all the standard gauges of agricultural wire - including 12.5 hi-tensile and 12.5 barbed wire! How it works: inside every Gripple Wire Joiner & Tensioner are high precision gear-toothed rollers. These rollers grip each wire allowing it to move in one direction only. The moment any load is applied, the rollers "bite" into the wire - locking it into place. The geared Tensioning Tool makes for quick and easy tensioning.
Gripples work great on new fencing, but are especially useful and quick on repairing and fix'n old or damaged fence. When working with "old rusty barbed wire" that may break when you try to bend it and knot it, a Gripple allows the wire to pass straight thru without further damage to the wire itself.
The Medium Gripple works on both 12.5 gauge hi-tensile wire or 15.5 gauge barbed wire and can be used as a loop for end installations or as in-line joiners. Simply push the wire ends thru the Gripple and tension with the Tensioning Tool. The Large Gripple works on 12.5 barbed wire and 8 gauge smooth.
Pictured here are three different Gripples on three different gauges of wire that are joined and tensioned with the tensioning tool.
Using Gripples for 12.5 gauge hi-tensile woven wire makes for easy joining from one roll to the next. Plus they allow you to tension the wire as well. This is a great cost saving option for the small livestock enterprise where you may not have all the traditional stretching tools required to stretch woven wire. With a small investment of the tensioning tool and a few Gripples, you are ready to build fence. An added plus with using Gripples on woven wire is that you can tension wire to fit your terrain, such as over ridges and in dips. This system allows you to tension each horizonal wire as the slope of the land dictates.
The Tensioning Tool is a gear-drive Tensioner that has slots to accept all the different size Gripples. One tool works on them all, so you don't have to make any adjustments to go from a Large Gripple, to a Medium Gripple or a Jumbo Gripple. It is powerful and generates up to 800 pounds of tension. (12.5 gauge hi-tensile should be tensioned to only 150 to 200 ft pounds.) It is lighweight (1.6 pounds) and made of hardened steel and engineering polymer. It's ergonomic design is compact and easy to handle, operate and carry. The Gear-drive delivers a 6:1 mechanical advantage. There is a lifetime warranty on this tool from the manufacturer. See a special offering on Gripple Tools, lower on this page.
The best way to buy the tensioning tool is to purchase the promo starter pack (above), or the Contractor Pack pictured here. It saves you money on the tool and you get a supply of gripples to get started with.
Also available is the Gripple Brace Kit for H-Braces, which includes 18' of stranded cable of Stainless Steel & Galvanized strands and a Gripple for 1/4" cable. There is a pre-crimped loop on one end that goes around the bottom of the corner post. The cable is then wrapped around the brace post and tensioned with the Gripple. The same tensioning tool works on this Gripple as well. It makes for a very fast and very sturdy corner H-Brace.

* Some Notes about Tensioning with Gripples *
HOW THE TOOL WORKS is quite simple. The part of the tool that slides onto the Gripple (the jaw) has multiple slots in it to accept ALL of the different sizes of Gripples. You need a minimum of 3" wire extention from the Gripple. The wire capture mechanism has an Anvil and toothed Cam, that captures the wire in the open position. When you move the handles fully apart - this knocks the cam off of the anvil, opening the wire track. As you squeeze the handles together the toothed cam maintains positive grip. You will get about 3" of wire pull at each tensioning pull. The gear drive delivers a 6:1 mechanical advantage and generates up to 800 pounds of tension.
Gripple are definitely "the faster way to fence", however we at Powerflex Fence do not intend to even try to persuade you to abandon your TRADITIONAL means of joining and tensioning fence wire. We feel that there are times to use a Gripple and times to not. With 12.5 barbed wire, for instance, the large Gripples holding power of 800+ pounds is greater than the wire itself - so it is a great option for joining barbed wire, as well as most common soft steel fence wire types. With 12.5 gauge hi-tensile smooth wires where you have breaking strengths of 1000 to 1500 pounds, then the Gripple may be a weak point. You may get some slippage prior to actual wire breaking points. With the tensioning tool you do, however, have the opportunity to retension if this occurs. Our point here is: Don't abandon the traditional & proven methods of using a good quality end insulator, a knot or crimp sleeve and the traditional in-line or on-line tensioners. Gripples will add a new dimension to your fence building or repairing options for hi- tensile - so don't completely rule them out. If you have the tensioning tool and a bag of medium Gripples you will be able to accomplish things faster. We have seen that when building woven wire, they come in exceptionally handy and really do cut down your time - plus giving you some great tensioning options in hilly terrain, such as being able to tension upper and lower wires as the slope dictates. The GP1 Gripple makes your end / corner connections really fast and neat.
I notice that since we now have Gripples in our tool pouch and The Gripple Tool available - we are more often choosing them.......for new construction and repairs.
