A Spade Built for Post Holes, Not Garden Beds
A general-purpose shovel fights you in a post hole. It's too short to reach the bottom, and the shaft gives exactly when you're levering against packed ground. The Strainrite Power Post Fencing Spade is built for the one job, and two details do the work.
The blade is slightly cupped Bisalloy steel — cupped enough to lift dirt up and out of the hole, while still presenting a straight cutting edge for squaring the sides. And the shaft carries a high-tensile inner tube in its base, which is where a spade takes the load when you're prising rather than digging.
At 1800mm (71") total it's an extra-long straight shaft with no handle fitted, so you work a full-depth hole standing up instead of on your knees. Made in New Zealand.
